THE BOOK HAS COME OUT IN THE TOP 3 FOR THE UK SUMMERTIME READ  (june to august 2016) and will be in the top 12 for the annual final in June/July 2017.
I HAVE WRITTEN A BOOK OF SHORT STORIES WHICH INVOLVE HISTORIC MEDICINE, GHOSTS, DETECTIVES, FORENSICS AND SMUGGLERS ETC
It is my first book, though I have 60 publications which include academic articles primarily my work as an archaeologist and physical anthropologist in books and journals. These short stories are based on locations  primarily in Ireland. Onstream at Cloghroe, Blarney are the publishers. This book was launched by Marty Morrissey, well known sports commentator with RTE.
The profits on sales will go to the Cork Parkinson’s Support Group. 
 Each book costs 10 euro + pp = 11.50. It can be mailed directly to the person and a message can be added with the author’s signature.
 This book would make a good stocking filler for Christmas.

Author’s Biography

Catryn Power is a former Cork County Archaeologist who specialises in palaeopathology and physical anthropology. She has worked on numerous excavations throughout Ireland and abroad and taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in University College Cork. She has written internationally on her projects for journals and magazines. In 2012, she was shortlisted by the Fish Short Story Prize for ‘The Officer’s Son’ and in 2013 her story ‘Thomas and Marigold’ was shortlisted for the Cinnamon Press Short Story Prize.

A love letter to a long career in archaeology

A former Cork County archaeologist has launched her debut collection of short fiction.

Catryn Power’s first collection of short stories is a love letter to her career in archaeology and are based on locations primarily in Ireland.

Readers of the book will meet the ghost of a French nurse, a forensic anthropologist solving a decade-old murder, as well as an international gem smuggler.

Bookworms will join her characters as they escape attackers in an ancient crypt, relive the murder of an old Irish knight and uncover human remains in the trenches of World War One.

Profits from the collection of seven stories will towards the Cork Parkinsons Support Group.Marty Morrissey launched the book last night in Waterstones to 200 people. Marty and Catryn studied archaeology together at UCC.

The book is available from Waterstones and retails at €10.
